Mr. Paul Theys graduated from the University of Leuven with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He joined Exxon Chemical as a process engineer in 1980 in Belgium. Currently, Theys is the President of Exxon Al Khalij Inc. in Abu Dhabi, with an oversight for all of ExxonMobil’s upstream, downstream and chemicals operations and joint venture projects in the United Arab Emirates. Theys is a Board Member of INJAZ UAE and is also member of the American Chamber of Commerce Abu Dhabi.
In August 2006, Mr. Theys was appointed Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co. Ltd and transferred to Beijing with primary responsibility for new business development through investment for ExxonMobil Chemical’s businesses in the People’s Republic of China. He also provided general business oversight for ExxonMobil’s Chemical existing businesses in China.
From 2007 through May 2014, Mr. Theys was Chairman of ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co. Ltd. and ExxonMobil Hong Kong Ltd. He was ExxonMobil’s representative on the boards of the Fujian joint venture companies – Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Co. Ltd., and Sinopec SenMei (Fujian) Petroleum Company Limited. He was also ExxonMobil’s representative on the board of CLP Holdings Ltd, Hong Kong. In June 2014, Mr. Theys was appointed as President of Exxon Al Khalij Inc. in Abu Dhabi, with an oversight for all of ExxonMobil’s upstream, downstream and chemicals operations and joint venture projects in the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Theys is a Board Member of INJAZ Al Arab, the regional chapter of Junior Achievement. He is also member of the American Chamber of Commerce Abu Dhabi.
